Meeting: Conferences can be broadcast on Web
Deborah Bailey Browne, said meetings involving more than one site, sometimes are done electronically, where a speakerphone set in each office’s conference room allows the session attendees to hear and talk with each other. Conferring that way, she said, save people the time it takes to travel from site to site.
She said meeting agendas are set by the session leader, with participants e-mailed session schedules and any reports to be discussed prior to the event. That reduces paper clutter and helps streamline meeting discussions.
"Sometimes we’ll use a sketch board where you might write out some topics to see if you want to brainstorm on, let’s say, a strategy", she said. Bailey Browne also does committee work and meets with board members through telephone conference calls.
"They can’t give up the time to travel to a meeting, but they can shut the door in their office to go through a quick conference call", she said.
And, rather than shuttle off to various training conferences, she attends many via the Web.
"I’ve been on Web conferences with 180 people and it’s been a real asset because I’ve been able to provide to my people national training without having to have the hotel and airfare", she said.
